Late to Flash in TO? They poke your eye out.

Just rolled into Toronto and after checking in decided to go check out the Flash in TO gathering to nerd out for a minute at a gallery space that also happens to be showing the work of mNowland. I got there a little late I guess because as I was walking up the stairs I got hit with a pen. it was an accident… they dint know I was there. Everyone else had already left [I dint think it was that late] but they felt bad so they let me hang out with them for a minute, gave me a beer and let me check out the werks of mNowland.

Nice people. luckily for me [and my eye] they have bad aim.

Hell yeah I'm in New York

July 22, 2005

I decided to take a break from walking a few minutes ago as I am making my way over to the MoMA. I sit down on this ledge in front of a corperate fountain and this and this dude passing out fliers or somthing asks me for a smoke.

Him: you got a smoke I can have?
Me: nah man, i'm sorry. I don't have many left.
Him: I just need one.
Me: I only have like 2 left.
Him: I don't even have any you piece of shit!
Then he spits on my shoe. Awesome.

Game Boy in new york.

July 21, 2005

My show was last night and it went pretty well. I got lots of good responces and questions from people even other performers and the folks running it. I was a bit surprised actually cause dang ... its new york.

The misshap. The thing I was the most worried about was the drive belt on the cassette unit would fail. It did. It was well into the set but still. As far as they say none noticed.

My friends where able to make it which was very nice them. [e] [pheezy] [k]

Wandering around I just happened upon the Kid Robot store and got to see some original werks by my boy Tristan. The ones I wanted were sold out but still... Cool to see (by accident)

Its Hard to Tie Your Shoes in a NYC Taxi

July 19, 2005

After the security check I didn't re-tie my shoes tight enough. This was noticably an issue when waiting in the Taxi line. But i'm here to say, the Queens Tunnel in a NYC Taxi is not the place to remidy an issue of this nature.

A Flash Bug is My New Favorite Instrument

July 17, 2005

For the last couple weeks I have been making some flash pieces that create sequenced conglomerations from sounds I've recorded in real space. Basically, the way it werks is I import a sound onto a timeline and then start an interval that @ every n milliseconds jumps the play head to a new random spot on the sound's timeline and continues playing from there. The results have been fun and I am Hijacking them to record onto looping cassettes for my performance.

Earlier today I was running some new sounds through this process and while I was recording I clicked on the top bar of the window to move it and the interval stopped triggering until I let up on the mouse again. Dang this makes these even more fun now that I can 'perform' with the swf and cause more recognizable excerpts or break the rhythm of the interval on cue.

Nanolunch. 7D to 7F

July 10, 2005

There comes a time in every nanoloop composer's adventures where once the last slot is filled, careful decisions need to be made as to which loops are good enough to keep and which should be written over. My last nanolunch endeavor has left me in that position. Here is a sample of the jam that took the last 3 slots on my cart. 7D - 7F.

gameboy

To those loops who shall fall victim in the coming weeks to any new creations, I salute you. Without you I could not have figured out how this insane interface works. I thank you.

Performance Submission - Ontological Hysteric Theater

July 05, 2005

06.27.05 I created some new material to submit to be considered as a performer for Noise! Seen and Unseen in NYC. The things submitted are based on gameboy play combined with cassette manipulations of scanner recordings and other real space sounds.

Well, I got accepted today and am very excited. Thanks Pheezy for the push and the info.

[A],
After considering your application along with the others, we would like to offer you a 20 minute slot on Wednesday(7/20) to perform as a part of our festival. Learning is *NOT* Repetition

July 01, 2005

We had a presentation from a Marketing Director of whatever from Giant Corporation X. At one point durring his presentation he was talking about how the plan to reach customers was to educate them about the products. But he kept saying 'Learning is Repetition. Learning is Repetition. Learning is Repetition.' I disagree. Learning is NOT repetition. Memorization is. If you really want someone to learn something then what you need to do is figure out a way to communicate the information to the person in a way that they can relate to. Whether its because of their previous experiences or because it reaches them on an emotional level, once your information is wrapped in a way that makes sense in relation to something they already understand real learning can take place.
